Why could Covid-19 be a syndemic?

Covid-19 is not a pandemic “, as determined by a group of scientists, who assured that the health crisis that is hitting the world should face it as a syndemic. Various countries are taking measures to combat infections by SARS-CoV- 2, which has been classified as a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO), since it is only the massive spread of a new disease.

However, part of the scientific community has not agreed with the motion of the international body, ensuring that this virus must be analyzed from a biological and social perspective. In this context, the editor-in-chief of the scientific journal The Lancet, Richar Horton, assured that if the virus is seen as a “syndemic”, it will generate a broader vision that will encompass areas such as education, employment, housing, food and the environment.

Whereas, if Covid-19 is seen as a pandemic, a prospect that is broad but necessary to analyze is excluded. We explain what a syndicate is and why experts consider coronavirus within that category.
